Course Description:

The Pediatric Education for Pre-hospital Professionals provider course represents a comprehensive source of information for the emergent care of infants and children. This program developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics presents the latest in pediatric information in an innovative, highly visual format for both BLS and ALS providers.

Utilizing a combination of 10 hours of classroom and 6 hours of hands on training the following topics specific to children will be presented.

• Assessment using the PAT
• Airway Management
• Respiratory Emergencies
• Cardiovascular Emergencies
• Toxicology
• Trauma Assessment and Management
• Spinal Immobilization
• Child Maltreatment
• Newborn Resuscitation
• Child and Family Interaction
• Children with Special Healthcare Needs

8-16 Category 1 Continuing Education Units will be awarded for all BLS & ALS providers by the Virginia Office of EMS and recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

Persons who successfully complete the knowledge and skills evaluations in accordance with the curriculum of this American Academy of Pediatrics course will receive the PEPP Provider course completion card.
