International Trauma Life Support - ITLS

Course Description:

ITLS Advanced - Advanced ITLS is a comprehensive course for EMT-P's, trauma nurses, physicians and other advanced EMS personnel. The ITLS Advanced course covers the skills necessary for rapid assessment, resuscitation, stabilization and transportation of trauma patients, using as its core, the ITLS Basic Course.

Specifically the following material is presented and practiced:

• Basic & Advanced Airway
• Chest decompression and fluid resuscitation
• Spinal restriction / rapid extrication
• Short back board
• Helmet management
• Log roll and long back board
• Traction splints
• Patient assessment and management.

Course Length: 16 hours

The intended audience for this course includes basic and advanced level emergency medical services personnel.

8-16 Category 1 Continuing Education Units will be awarded for all BLS & ALS providers by the Virginia Office of EMS and recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

Persons who successfully complete the knowledge and skills evaluations in accordance with the curriculum of this International Life Support course will receive the ITLS Provider course completion card.
